How to setup Deakin email/calendars for an Android device

Please be aware, there are many different Android tablets and phones on the market, and several versions of the Android Operating System. The steps shown here may vary slightly on your device.

  1. Open the Email Application.

  2. If you are a Staff member tap Add Exchange Account.

If you are a Student tap Add Office 365 Account.

    • If you are a Student, enter your full Deakin email (username@deakin.edu.au), enter your Deakin password, and tap Manual Setup,
    • If you are a Staff member, enter your full Deakin email (firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au), enter your Deakin password, and tap Manual Setup,

  3. Manual setup configuration (if required) is as follows:

Warning: As of January 2020, new changes to Outlook may require you to add or change your username in your installation or app's Settings. Please use your email address (firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au), NOT the old DU\username format.

    Student:
    • Domain\Username: username@deakin.edu.au
    • Password: your Deakin password
    • Server: outlook.office365.com

Staff (optional, if auto-configuration method does not work):
    • email: firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au
    • Password: your Deakin password
    • Domain\Username: firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au
    • Server - mail.deakin.edu.au

  4. Tap OK to accept the Remote security administration.

  5. You will be prompted to sign in via Deakin's Single Sign On (SSO) portal. If you are a staff member, you will also be required to use MFA to verify your credentials.

You may be prompted to enter your Deakin Username, and Deakin Password via Deakin's Single Sign On (SSO) portal

  6. Within the account options screen, you can set the behaviour of the account, including how often new mail is checked, and whether you would like your Deakin email account to be the default mailing account. If your device uses cellular networks for data, you may wish to modify the frequency with which your email is checked. By default, it will be set to the push setting. It is recommended that this is changed to manual. This may help to reduce data plan usage and battery consumption. When you're satisfied with the settings, tap Next. Tap Activate to enable remote administration. Your Deakin email, contacts and calendar entries will now be synchronized to the device. To exit Settings, press the Home or Back buttons.

  7. Your Email should now be activated and working.
