How do I make a phone call with Lync? (Mac)

Deakin Staff who have been transitioned to Lync Voice can make and receive phone calls without a deskphone using Lync on their Mac computer.

Note: This feature is only available to staff who have been activated in Lync Enterprise Voice.

To dial an Internal contact by name

1.  On the Mac, open Lync.

2. Type the person’s name in the search box.

Contacts that match your search will be shown

  3.  Hover over the contact and click the Phone icon to call.

To dial an Internal contact by extension

1.  On the Mac, open Lync.

2.  Type the extension number of the person you want to call in the search box.

Contacts that match your search will be shown

3.  Press Enter to call.

To dial an External contact by number

Note: International calling via Lync is only available to authorised staff.

1.  On the Mac, open Lync.

2.  Type the phone number in the search box:

    • For local calls, enter the number, no leading zero required (e.g., 51234567)
    • For mobile calls, enter the mobile number, (e.g., 0412345678)
    • For national calls, enter the area code and number, (e.g., 0291234567)
    • For international calls, enter the full country code and area code before the number (+25433678865)
 

Contacts that match your search will be shown

3.  Press Enter to call.
