How do I get Microsoft Office on my Mac for free?

This offer allows Deakin Students and Staff to install the Office suite onto five computers for free while enrolled or employed at Deakin. The installation and management of the software is controlled through your Deakin Office 365 account.

OS X 10.10 or above users get access to Office 2016.
OS X 10.6 - 10.9 users get access to Office 2011

Downloading and installing Office 2011 or 2016

  1. Browse to www.deakin.edu.au/office365
  2. Enter your Deakin username and password, then click Sign on
  3. Click the Settings menu and select Office 365 Settings


     
  4. Select Software


     
  5. Click Office, then Install


     
  6. The installer file (MicrosoftOffice2011.dmg or Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg) will download to your Downloads folder
  7. Once the download has completed, open the installer file to start the install
  8. Proceed through the guided steps as necessary - You may be prompted for your Mac password during this process
  9. Click Close once prompted that Office installation has completed
     

Activating Office 2011 (OS X 10.6-10.9)

  1. Open an Office program (e.g. Word, Excel etc)
  2. At the 'Get Started with Office 2011' screen, select Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription


     
  3. Enter your Deakin email address and click Next
     
  4. Enter your Deakin Password then click Sign In


     
  5. Enter your name and click Continue


     
  6. Complete the 'Help Improve Microsoft Office' screen and click Continue


     
  7. Activation complete!

Activating Office 2016 (OS X 10.10 and later)

  1. Open an Office program (e.g. Word, Excel etc)
  2. Select Activate and Sign in
  3. Enter your Deakin email address and click Next
     
  4. Enter your Deakin username and password, then click Sign On


     
  5. Choose your theme and click Continue


     
  6. Activation complete!
