How to access SPSS statistical software at Deakin
SPSS is available to all Deakin University staff on "Deakin Desktop" managed Windows and Mac OS X computers, via your the self-service Software Catalogue.
It is also available to staff for use on a privately-owned computer via the Deakin Software Library, provided it is used in the primary residence of a staff member currently employed at the University.
SPSS now requests a license check from an SPSS license server each time the application is started. Deakin has its own SPSS license server to handle these requests. If the license server is unavailable - or if your workstation is not connected to the Deakin network - SPSS will not run.
You need to be connected to the Deakin network via wireless or cabled network connection.
I have SPSS installed, how do I license it?
Staff - Deakin managed desktop computer users
- Your desktop computer should always connect to the network when on campus, so you do not have to do anything to use SPSS once you have it installed.
Staff - Deakin managed laptop computer users
- Your laptop computer should always connect to the network when on campus, so you do not have to do anything to use SPSS once you have it installed. If you have a laptop and want to use SPSS software when traveling, complete the Licensing SPSS for Off-Campus usage instructions, but only after you have installed SPSS and before you start your travel.
Students - off-campus
- Students enrolled in an off-campus course (not just one unit) should contact the IT Service Desk to receive a single-user license and instructions for installing SPSS.
Students - on-campus
- Unfortunately, the licensing agreement with IBM does not include the provision of licenses to students enrolled on-campus. However, SPSS is available on all Windows lab computers located on campus.
