How do I free up disk space on my computer?

To reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use Disk Cleanup. It removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of system files and other items that you no longer need.

If you're using a Deakin Desktop PC, you can run "Disk Cleanup" from the Software Catalogue, this will run a cleanup with settings optimised for Deakin Desktop.

For more information about deleting files from the Recycle Bin, see Permanently delete files from the Recycle Bin.

There are several ways to increase available disk space - see the Increase disk space Apple support article.

If you're using a Deakin Desktop Mac, you can use the Self Service catalogue to install OmniDiskSweeper, a utility that helps you find files and folders consuming the most space on your drive.

eSolutions strongly recommends you do not install automatic system cleaners such as CleanMyMac, MacKeeper and TuneUpMyMac, as they are known to cause system stability and data loss problems, and in some cases act as malware/adware.
