Our Best Answer

How do I make a phone call if I am not logged into Skype for Business (Lync)?

Deakin Staff who have been transitioned to Skype for Business Voice can make and receive phone calls using Skype for Business (formerly called Lync) on their Windows PC or Lync 2011 for Mac.

Note: This feature is only available to staff who have been activated in Skype for Business Voice via Deakin Unplugged. All staff will be progressively activated during 2015/16 - you'll receive email communications and on-site support when your area is due to be switched. For more information, visit www.deakin.edu.au/unplugged.

To make a call if you are logged off

If you need to make a call urgently but your PC is turned off or if you are logged-off, you can try these options:

  • Look for a wall phone or meeting room phone to make the call.
  • Use a mobile phone to make the call.
  • Use the Skype for Business app on an iPad or Android tablet (login using your Deakin username and password).
  • Use the Skype for Business app on an iPhone or Android smartphone (login using your Deakin username and password).

To make a call if you are locked out

Note: If you are locked out of your Deakin account, you will not be able to login to the Skype for Business (Lync) app on a tablet or smartphone.

If you need to make a call urgently but you are locked out, you can try these options:

  • Look for a wall phone or meeting room phone to make the call.
  • Use a mobile phone to make the call.
