How do I request access to a SharePoint Site?

You may be given access and invited to join a SharePoint Site, or you can request access to an existing Site if you need to use it for collaboration.

SharePoint Sites are accessed via your internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

Access a SharePoint site by email invitation

If you've already been given access to a SharePoint Site, you may receive an email invitation to the Site.

  1. Click on the link in the invitation email to open the SharePoint Site in your browser.

Access a SharePoint site by URL address

If you've been given a URL address for a SharePoint Site, you can open the URL in any internet browser.

  1. Open your preferred internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari
  2. Type or copy-and-paste the URL address into the address bar of the browser.

    If you don't yet have permission to access the Site, a message is displayed

  3. Type your reason for needing access to the Site in the text box and click Send request.

    The Site Owner is responsible for reviewing your request and either granting or rejecting your access to the Site.

Access a Site listed in the Site Directory

  1. Open the SharePoint Site Director
  2. Use the search box to search for the Site.

  3. Press Enter to search.
  4. Deakin SharePoint Sites that match your search criteria will be shown in a results page.

  5. Hover your mouse over a search result to see preview information.

  6. Click OPEN in the preview window to open the Site Directory details page.

  7. Click the Site URL link to open the SharePoint Site.

    If you don't yet have permission to access the Site, a message is displayed

  8.  Type your reason for needing access to the Site in the text box and click Send request.

    The Site Owner is responsible for reviewing your request and either granting or rejecting your access to the Site.
