How to use VuePoint-Connect software installed on a MoCoW

Teacher views and tools

Accessing the VuePoint-Connect menu bar

The VuePoint-Connect menu bar sits at the top of your desktop screen. Simply roll your mouse over the tab to reveal the menu bar.

Sharing the teacher desktop with the students

To share the Teacher desktop to the students, simply click the Teacher button on the menu bar. The button highlights orange and your desktop is shown on all student display screens. To stop sharing, click the Teacher button again. The student display screen will return to their normal desktop.
The Teacher remains in control of the session at all times. Students are not able to take control of the Teacher desktop screen.
 

Note: Students have the ability to minimise their view of the Teachers desktop to a quarter of their screen for a Picture in Picture view to allow for following instructions from the Teacher.

Viewing the student desktops

To view the Student desktops select the Student button on the menu bar. A panel will appear to show a real time thumbnail view of all student desktops. The thumbnails are refreshed at 2 frames per second. The Lock button on the panel will lock the student menu and temporarily disable them from collaborating with each other. This allows you to take control when required.

Connecting to a student desktop

To preview and connect to a student desktop simply double click a thumbnail. You will now see a full screen view of the student desktop screen. You will now also have full mouse and keyboard control of the student desktop. To send this student desktop to all other students click the Send to all button in the top right of the screen. The button will now flash to show you are sending to all. Click again to return all students to their desktops. There is a Pen button to start and stop annotation over the student’s desktop. There is a Black and White selection for the pen colour.
To disconnect from the student click the  in the top right corner of the screen. This will return to your desktop.

Collaboration tools

The Tools button on the menu bar will reveal a variety of tools to assist in collaboration.

Fileshare

The FileShare panel allows for Teachers and Students to share files during the class. Click Upload to send files to the students. When the upload is complete your file will appear in the My Files section. The students will see your file in the Shared Files section of their panel. There is a Cancel button to cancel the upload during the process.
When the students upload their files you will see the files in the “Student Files” section of the panel. Simply select the files you want to download and click the Download button and select where you want to save the files. Once files are downloaded you can double click them in the panel to open and view in their native application.
As with any network process some actions can be dropped. There is a Refresh button under the Download button to re-collect all uploaded files should some be missing.

Note: The FileShare button icon on the main menu will show a white arrow to alert you when participants have uploaded files

Chat

A chat panel has been provided for quick communications with students. When you are not connected to a student via teh Students panel, messages will broadcast to all students. When connected to a student via the Students panel, all messages will be between yourself and that student.

Identify/Student desktop lock

When in a collaborative group learning space environment it can be difficult to easily identify which student group is which from the Students panel. Click the Identify button to show a number on the student group displays. This number is reflected in the Students panel.
A student desktop lockout button has been provided to lock the student’s desktop view and keyboard. This can be utilised to get the student’s attention at any time during a class. Unlocking will return their desktop view and keyboard control.

StormCloud

StormCloud allows you to start a collaboration session and invite students to join. During a StormCloud session, all participants have the ability to contribute to the session in real time with multiple mice and keyboards.
Click the StormCloud button on the menu to launch the window.

Select Start Session from the top right then Send Request. A popup will list all participants and allow selection of individual or all participants. When a student accepts the request their StormCloud window will be launched and automatically connect them to your session.

The StormCloud menu tabs are located to the left and right of the window. Some of the controls include shapes, text, pen, cursor, undo/redo, copy/paste, colour control, new/open/save and a refresh button if actions are dropped by the network to re-sync all participants in the session.
There are 20 individual frames available. The frame viewer is located at the bottom of the window and shows a live view of each frame. Swipe left to right for the next frame set. Double click to view that frame.

YouTube

The YouTube window allows for a Teacher to search YouTube videos. Results are show as a thumbnail image. To access more results simply swipe left or right on the thumbnail panel. Hold Shift and left click the mouse to drag individual videos to the Students panel on the right. This allows the Teacher to assign individual videos to each Student.

The Teacher can save YouTube videos to their library for easy access to frequently used videos. To save a video to the Library simply Right Click on the thumbnail from the above view and select Add to Library. This also allows for saving to a group folder name.

Poll

Teachers can create Polls on the fly or select from pre saved polls.

Select New Poll to clear the fields to create a new poll. Enter the question and up to 5 answers. Select the check box to the right of the correct answer. This will highlight the correct answer orange. Select Send Poll to send to Students or select Save to save the poll. You can create multiple questions by using the navigation buttons located either side of the Send Poll button.

The Teacher can view the results as a Graph View or by Student View. The Student View shows each Students response and the time taken to answer.

Planner

A Lesson Planner has been provided to allow the Teacher to queue files, web pages and YouTube videos in the order they wish to present to the class. Click File in the Add Files panel to add files from the computer. This can save time and improve the flow of class by not having to search for files on the fly.
To launch each file from the Planner simply double click the file or url in the Planner Files panel to the left. This will launch each file in its default application.

Click the Web Page or YouTube button in the Add Files panel to add a website url or YouTube url to the Planner. Click Cancel to return the main menu.

Click Save to save a Planner file.

Student views and tools

Student views

When the teacher is sending their desktop the student can minimise their view of the teacher’s desktop to a quarter of their screen for a Picture in Picture view to allow for follow along instructions. The minimise/maximise buttons are located in the top right of the teacher window. A student can move the window around their desktop by holding down their left mouse button over the teacher window and dragging to the desired position.

To view other Student desktops select the Student button. A panel will appear to show a real time thumbnail view of all student desktops. The thumbnails are refreshed at 2 frames per second.

Connect to other student desktops

To preview and connect to another student desktop simply click a thumbnail. This will send a Request to join message to that Student. If that Student selects Allow, you will now see a full screen view of the student desktop screen. There is a Pen button to start and stop annotation over the student’s desktop. There is a Black and White selection for the pen colour.
To disconnect from the student click the  in the top right corner of the screen. This will return to your desktop.

Privacy

Students can elect to be Private by selecting the Privacy button. This will show on other Student views as Busy. Students will receive a Busy message if they try to connect.
