How to delete the offline folder file using Outlook 2013

If you receive the following error when opening Outlook 2013, perform the steps detailed below:

'Outlook is using an old copy of your Offline Folder File (.ost). Exit Outlook and delete the .ost file, and restart Outlook.'

  1. Click OK to remove the error.
     
  2. Click the File tab.

    Highlights the File tab.
  3. Click Account Settings > Account Settings.

    Highlights the Account Settings menu.
  4. Click the Data Files tab > Select the entry in the list of data files that has a tick next to it > Click Open File Location to open the directory that contains this file in Windows Explorer.

    Shows the Data Files window, within Account Settings.
  5. Exit Outlook and delete the offending OST file.

    Highlights the OST file within the Outlook folder.
  6. Start Outlook; the OST file will be recreated.
