Why do I get an "Invalid Characters" error message when I sync files to OneDrive?

Some characters are not supported in OneDrive for Business. If a file or folder you're trying to upload to OneDrive for Business contains any of these characters, you will receive an error message.

The use of the following characters in a file name is not supported:

  • # (number sign)
  • % (percent)
  • < (less than)
  • > (greater than)
  • : (colon)
  • " (double quote)
  • | (pipe)
  • ? (question mark)
  • * (asterisk)
  • / (slash)
  • \ (backslash)
