Deakin staff using a Deakin Desktop workstation can no longer store a PST file on their Desktop or in their My Documents folders (or any other folder that is synced with their home directory). This is because large PST files running from the home directory will cause issues in Outlook. Attempting to place a PST in one of these locations will display the following error message:
When using a Windows 7 Deakin Desktop managed workstation, PST email archives should be stored on the D: drive. PST email archives must be manually backed up by the user as they are not automatically backed up or transferred when you change computers.
When using a Windows 10 Deakin Shield managed workstation, PST email archives should be stored in C:\Users\your-username\. You can create a subfolder in this location to help organise them. PST email archives must be manually backed up by the user as they are not automatically backed up or transferred when you change computers.
- Archives are searchable once they have been added to Outlook and indexing is complete.
PST archives should not be stored in OneDrive, as this will cause the PST file to be continuously synced to OneDrive.
At the end of your computer's lease, you must back up and transfer any PST email archives you wish to keep. Instructions can be found in the Getting your old machine ready article.
