How do Deakin phone numbers work with Skype for Business?
Individual Deakin phone numbers are available for Staff and HDR Students, allowing you to make and receive calls on your own Deakin number using Skype for Business.
Phone numbers are automatically allocated to new staff when they join Deakin. Phone numbers can be requested for HDR Students by their area HDR Coordinator.
A Deakin public number can be dialled direct from outside Deakin. Public numbers are reserved for Deakin Services, fixed location phones and permanent staff members. Other staff can request a public number if they have a justifiable need for access by direct dialling for their role.
Public numbers are authorised for dialling other Deakin numbers and Australian landline numbers, by default. If you require access for dialling Australian mobiles, or international numbers, you must obtain approval from your manager and provide an account code for charging of calls to your area.
You can request a new public number or request a change to your dialling access via this webpage.
Sessional staff, casual staff and HDR Students are issued with Deakin private numbers by default. A private number can be dialled from outside Deakin by dialling the central auto-attendant number and then dialling the extension number at the voice prompt. You can advertise your private number to your contacts on your email signature, business card, or other material, as shown in this example:
- e.g., Tel: +61 3 5247 9383, then dial Ext. 91001
Private numbers are authorised for dialling other Deakin numbers by default (internal dialling). If you require access for dialling Australian landline numbers, mobile numbers or international numbers, you must obtain approval from your manager and provide an account code for charging of calls to your area.
You can request a private number or request a change to your dialling access via this webpage.
Your private extension number will stay valid for the duration of your employment or study at Deakin. When you leave and your user account is deleted, your extension number will be released for reassignment. At this point you will need to advise your contacts of your change of contact number.
